Georgia Thackery is feeling pretty good about her summer job teaching at prestigious Overfeld College, and she’s renting a rustic cabin right by a lake for herself, her daughter, Madison, and her best friend, Sid the Skeleton. Together again, the trio are enjoying the quiet when a teenager named Jen shows up looking for her friend. Georgia doesn’t recognize the name, but she learns that the person Jen was looking for is actually Sid.

Sid reveals that he and Jen are part of a regular online gaming group that formed locally, and one of their members has gone missing. Sid admits that he might have bragged about his investigative prowess, enough so that Jen wants him to find their missing player. Given that Sid doesn’t have many friends offline—none, really, unless you count the Thackery family—Georgia agrees to help him search. They manage to discreetly enlist Jen, who lives in town, and follow the clues to… a dead buddy.

Now they’ve got a killer on their hands. Probing the life of Sid’s friend, they realize a lot is wrong both on campus and in the seemingly quaint town, and someone doesn’t want them looking deeper.

*****MY REVIEW – FIVE STARS!*****

The Skeleton Makes A Friend” by Leigh Perry (aka Toni L. P. Kelner) is the fifth in The Family Skeleton Mysteries.  I can’t say enough about this series. From first to fifth, you’ll want to find and read (and maybe re-read) each one.

Perry has created a life-like (living) skeleton with personality plus, that will quickly become a favorite character with her readers. Sid has detecting skills that go beyond that of the cops and helps his best friend, Georgia solve murder mysteries in the various Colleges where she works.

Dr. Georgia Thackery is an adjunct professor of literature and takes jobs where she can find them.  Without tenure, she’s at the mercy of each hiring administration. In this book, she is working in a special summer program at Overfield College, and is living with Sid and her teenage daughter Madison, in a rented cabin near a lake. They are enjoying a bit of a vacation on weekends, until one of Sid’s online gaming “friends” goes missing.

Using his amazing Internet sleuthing skills, Sid locates the workplace of the missing gamer. It’s at the college where Georgia works.  After a gruesome discovery, the two, and now with Madison, begin their unofficial investigation. Why would someone want to kill this really nice guy?

The mystery is puzzling and exciting. The suspense and danger rise and the victims and suspects grow in number. The final rescue and reveal scene will thrill you.  But more compelling and enjoyable is the wonderful, human-acting skeleton, with his soft “heart,” total loyalty, and love for his family. Over the five-book series we’ve seen Sid demonstrate more and more abilities, from human emotions to super-hero characteristics. Thanks to Perry’s imaginative writing, readers will be able to vividly “picture” Sid as they read.

I love, love, love this series, and so will you. And after reading this touching mystery about Sid finding friends beyond his family, you will want to begin with book #1 and read them all!

Full Disclosure – I received a digital ARC of this book for review from the publisher

    • Oh, do dive in Dianne and read the series. It is terrific. You can start here, but then, really, go back to #1 and read the series. You won’t be able to put them down. And you will love Sid the Skeleton.
